Abstract: Objective To investigate the prevalence of heterogeneous vancomycin-intermediate staphy-lococcus aureu (h-VISA) infection situation in our hospital, and to discuss the relationship between separation rate'and MICs of parent strains. Methods The MICs of the oxacillin-resistance staphylococcus aureu (MRSA) were tested by agar dilution method and population analysis profiles to screen h-VISAs, computed the separation rate and analyzed relationships between these strains and MICs of their parent strains. Results 7 strains were detected as h-VISAs,with a separation rate of 15.6%. More h-VISAs can be detected in strains with higher MICs to vancomyein. Conclusion A certain separation rate of h-VISA had been detected in our hospital, which could be worth noticing. Monitoring the spreading of h-VISA in the hospital would assist using vancomycin cor-rectly and prevent the appearances of VISA or VRSA.
