Abstract: Objective To assess the early-term effect of minimal invasive surgery in treating congenital cardiac disease. Methods Data of 232 adult patients with congenital cardiac disease who underwent minimal invasive surgery (minimal invasive group,116 cases) and conventional surgery with midline sternotomy (sternotomy group,116 cases) from June 2011 to October 2014 were reviewed. Results The duration of operation time, cardiopulmonary bypass time and cross-clamp time were not significantly different between groups (P > 0.05).The rate of blood transfusion, the duration of mechanical ventilation time, intensive care unit stay time and hospitalization stay time, the length of operative incision, the satisfaction degree of incision appearance in minimal invasive group were significantly better than those in sternotomy group [16.4% (19/116) vs 48.3% (56/116),(10±3) hvs (16±5) h,(16±8) hvs (27±9) h,(5.2±2.2) dvs (9.1 ±1.7) d,(5.3±2.1) cm vs (19.6 ± 2.6) cm,76.7% (89/116) vs 35.3% (41/116)] (all P < 0.05).The mortality during hospitalization period and incidence of postoperative complications were not significantly different between groups (P > 0.05).Conclusion Minimal invasive surgery is invasive, with better appearance incision and quicker recovery in treating adult congenital cardiac disease compared with conventional surgery.
