Abstract: The purpose of this study was to analyze the long-term outcome of endoscopic variceal ligation (EVL) as a treatment of acute esophageal variceal bleeding (EVB) in patients with liver cirrhosis. In this study, EVL led to significant short-term therapeutic efficacy for EVB, but the long-term outcome was closely related to the grading of liver function. In summary, for non-acute EVB in patients with Child Class C liver function, symptomatic treatment and liver protection measures are recommended, pending further EVL procedures when the liver function resumes Child Class A or B.
