Abstract: Objective:To study the clinical efficacy of lacoxamide combined with sodium valproate in the treatment of intractable epilepsy(IE)patients and its impact on seizure frequency and cognitive function. Methods:A total of 102 IE patients admitted to our hospital from September 2021 to September 2022 were selected as the research subjects. The patients were randomly divided into a control group and a combination group using a random number table method, with 51 patients in each group.Control group was treated with sodium valproate, while the combination group was treated with lacoxamide combined with sodium valproate. The clinical efficacy, quality of life scale-31(QOLIE-31),Montreal cognitive function assessment scale(MoCA)score, seizures, serum cytokine levels, and incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results:The total effective rate of the combined group was 94.12%,which was higher than 80.39%of the control group(P<0.05).After 3 months and 6 months of treatment, the scores of QOLIE-31 and MoCA in the combined group were higher than those in the control group(P<0.05).The frequency of epileptic seizures in the combined group was less than that in the control group, and the duration was shorter than that in the control group(P<0.05).The levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor and nerve growth factor in the combined group were higher than those in the control group, and the levels of B cell activating factor and fibrinogen-like protein 2 were lower than those in the control group(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the total incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion:Lacoxamide combined with sodium valproate can effectively improve the efficacy of IE,reduce the frequency of epileptic seizures, improve quality of life, cognitive function, reduce adverse reactions, and have high safety.
