Abstract: Patients with diabetes have about 15% lifetime risk of developing a foot ulcer worldwide, and 6 % of which need hospitalized treatment. So far, treatment of diabetic foot (DF) remains one of the burning issues for health care in diabetic populations and the DF treatment still deemed dismal and unsatisfactory, more effective treatment strategies are warranted.Umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells(UCMSCs) are progenitor cells which, have the ability of self-renewal and multilineage differentiation. It can promote the foot wound healing through the improvement of diabetic lower limb ischemia, repair diabetes peripheral neuropathy and immune regulation. The Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway plays an important regulatory role in UCMSC transplantation treatment. The UCMSC transplantation has become a novel cell therapeutic protocol for the treatment of diabetes mellitus and its complications. It has a broad application prospect.
