Abstract: Objective To investigate the prevalence and risk factors for hyperuricacidemia(HUA) in senior engineers. MethodsThe 188 cases with hyperuricacidemia(175 in male and 13 in female) and 770 subjects with normal level of UA were enrolled. The prevalence and risk factors for hyperuricacidemia were analyzed. The relation of HUA with BP and serum creatinine was observed. Results The prevalence of HUA was 19.6%, significantly higher in men than in women(22.8%vs 6.9%,P<0.01). The prevalence of HUA is significant higher in hypertension group(EH) than in normal blood pressure group(NEH) (29.2% vs 15.8%,P<0.01). The higher the level of fasting blood glucose(mmol:<5.6,≥5.6,≥6.1,≥7.0), the higher the prevelence of hyperuricacidemia (31%>27%>22%>15% in HUA,P<0.01). The independent risk predictors for the prevalence of HUA were serum creatinine, average blood pressure and fasting insulin level. Conclusion sHyperuricacidemia is a sensitive predictor for renal damage and metabolic syndrome.
