Abstract： Objective To explore the analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects of water extract and alcohol extract from gonostegia hirta.Methods The pain models in mice induced by electric heating plate and acetic acid writhing were used to investigate the analgesic effects of water extract and alcohol extract from gonostegia hirta.The inflammatory models of ear swelling in mice induced by uniformly applying xylene and foot swelling in rats induced by injecting egg white into the foot were used to investigate the anti-inflammatory effects of water extract and alcohol extract from gonostegia hirta.Results Low,high doses groups of water extract and alcohol extract from gonostegia hirta could significantly increased the pain threshold caused by the electric heating plate in mice,and significantly reduced the number of writhing reactions caused by acetic acid,the difference was significant compared to the normal control group and before self administration(P＜0.01).Low,high doses groups of water extract and alcohol extract from gonostegia hirta could significantly inhibited ear swelling caused by xylene application in mice and foot swelling caused by egg white in rats,the difference was significant compared to the normal control group(P＜0.01).In terms of analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects,the alcohol extract has significantly stronger effect than the water extract(P＜0.05,P＜0.01).Conclusion Water extract and alcohol extract from gonostegia hirta had significant analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects,and alcohol extract were stronger than water extract.
