Abstract: As a common cause of infantile cholestasis, biliary atresia(BA) is characterized by progressive liver fibrosis. As a palliative treatment, Kasai procedure can not completely prevent the progression of liver fibrosis. And over one half of BA patients eventually develop into end-stage cirrhosis and require liver transplantation.Cell therapy is using functional cells for repairing or replacing damaged cells in a specific disease to restore the function of tissue as much as possible. It is one of alternative therapies for liver fibrosis. This review summarized the latest advances of cell-based therapy for BA fibrosis, including endogenous cell repair, exogenous cell repair and immune cell therapy.
