Abstract: Objective To explore the methods and experiences of intratumoral injection of lauromacrogol for children cystic lymphangioma. Methods Retrospective analyses were conducted for the clinical data of 39 children of cystic lymphangioma receiving an intratumoral injection of lauromacrogol from September 2010 to August 2014.The diagnosis was confirmed by color Doppler ultrasound, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).Lauromacrogol was injected deeply and shallowly alternatively.According to the location and size of tumor cavity, orbital, oral, maxillofacial sites and tumor volume were injected with over 100 ml poly-GUI alcohol foam in 18 cases. The remaining 21 cases had an injection of lauromacrogol stock solution. The parameters of changes in tumor size, treatment frequency and complications were observed and recorded.Excellence is judged by a disappearance of tumor body and no recurrence after 1 year;effectiveness denotes a shrinking of tumor size by over 50% and no expansion after 1 year;ineffectiveness implies a shrinking of tumor size by less than 50% or recurrence within 1 year after treatment. Results A total of 39 cases received treatment for an average of (2.85 ± 0.87)(1-5) times. The outcomes were excellent (n =36,92.3 %),effective (n =2,5.1 %) and ineffective (n =1,2.6 %).And the overall effective rate was 97.4%.Among them, the number of treatment was (2.72 ± 0.75) times for poly-GUI alcohol foam and (2.95 ± 0.97) for lauromacrogol stock solution.Intergroup difference was statistically insignificant (t =0.26,P>0.05).In 3 cases,a low fever developed after the first injection on the same day and there was a relief after physical cooling.Local swelling and slight pain disappeared after observation for 1-3 days in another 5 cases. Conclusions Intratumoral injection of lauromacrogol is mini-invasive,safe and effective for children with cystic lymphangioma.
