Abstract: Objective To monitor certain physiological indices of the submarine crew both before and after deployment,so as to evaluate the effect of the prolonged deployment on the ship crew. Methods Pulse, blood pressure and respiratory rate were detected with routine methods.ECG,EEG and pulmonary function of the submarine crew were monitored respectively with ECG-6511,CFM-8P and Gould Spiroscreen. Results When compared with those indices detected before deployment at sea, changes in the physiological data were noticeable. The pulse rate of the submarine crew following 15 days of deployment at sea was (67.3 ± 5.2)/min,and the systolic pressure was ( 115.5 ± 10.6 ) mmHg.In some submariners, temporary abnormal ECG could be noted after prolonged deployment ( P < 0.05 ),and monitoring of the brain function showed that the number of θ and δ slow waves increased significantly ( P < 0.01 ).However,no significant changes could be detected in the pulmonary function of the submarine crew. Conclusions The monitoring and analysis of the physiological indices of the submarine crew.both before and after deployment indicated that operational conditions of the submarine had certain effect on the submarine crew.
