Abstract: Objective To investigate the existence of αB-crystallin in cerebrospinal fluid(CSF)of patients with multiple sclerosis(MS),neuromyelitis optica(NMO)and clinically isolated syndrome(CIS),and its association to clinical typing of MS.Methods 58 subjects(29 MS,6 NMO and 23 CIS)and 21 controls were investigatod in the study.MS patients were divided into opticospihal form of multiple sclerosis(OSMS)and conventional multiple sclerosis(CMS).αB-crystallin in CSF was detected by Western-blot analysis. Results One band, which was corresponding to the molecular weight of 22KDa,Wag visuMi,ed in CSF of NMO,MS,CIS patients and controls, without significant differences of grey scale. No significant differences of grey scale were seen between OSMS and CMS patients either. The incidence of the band among NM0,MS.CIS patients and controls had no significant differences(P>0.05).Conclusion αB-crystallin exists in CSF of NMO,MS,CIS patients and controls.without significant differences among groups. And it has no association to clinical typing of MS.The pathogenic mechanism of αB-crystallin in MS and NMO needs tO be further studied.
