Abstract: Objective To evaluate the clinical effect of recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein 2 and poly-lactie-co-glycolic acid copolymer(BMP-2/PLGA) complex sheet on orbital wall fracture defect reconstruction. Methods The animals were divided into treatment group of BMP-2/PLGA complex sheet and conrol group of PLGA. At the 1st week, the 3rd month, the 6th month after operation, cosmetic appearances and complications were observed, CT imaging and histological examination were performed. Results No complication was observed. The CT imaging showed that at the 3rd month orbital floor defect in treatment group was smaller than that in control group, and the CT vaule of treatment group was higher than controul group. At the 6th month, the defect disappeared in treatment group, but did not in control group.Histological examination showed that new bone structure was found in treatment group at the 3rd month. At the 6th month, the defect area in treatment group was replaced by bone tissue, and that in control group consisted of fiber tissue mainly. Conclusions Repairing orbital wall fracture defect with BMP-2/PLGA sheet has certain clinical effect. The complex has good hiocompatibility and can be replaced by new bone tissue.
