Abstract: Many kinds of cutaneous hypopigmentation may appear in patients with malignant melanoma, with a relatively higher incidance compared with general population. The appearance of hypopigrnentation may predict a better prognosis of malignant melanoma. This depigmentation could be either a consequence of dualistic immune-mediated response against common antigens shared by normal melanocytes and malignant melanoma cells,or a kind of antineoplastic-like reaction. The sudden emergence of vitiligo-like hypopigmentation or halo nevi near or apart from preexisting melanocytic nevi or malignant melanoma, may benefit the early diagnosis of malignant melanoma and its metastasis.
