Abstract: Curcumin is a plant-derived polyphenol extracted from the rhizome of turmeric. As curcumin has such favorable properties as anti-inflammation, anti-oxidation, anti-angiogenesis, immune regulation, anti-bacterial and pro-apoptosis and showed few side effects, the application of curcumin in prevention and treatment of periodontal diseases is promising. This article reviewed the research progress of curcumin in the prevention and treatment of periodontitis.
