Abstract: Objective To explore the clinical efficacy of percutaneous transforaminal endoscopic discectomy (PTED) directed by the C-arm system in the treatment of lumbar disc herniation among afloat naval personnel. Methods PTED was performed in 35 naval afloat patients with lumbar disc herniation. The degree of pain and clinical efficacy were closely observed before surgery and 1 week,3 months and 6 months after surgery. Results Visual anologue scale (VAS) scores of the 35 patients,1 week,3 months and 6 months after surgery were respectively 4.15 ± 0.79,(2.49 ± 0.87) and (1.23 ± 0.70),which were significantly lower than that before surgery (7.23 ± 1.07) (P < 0.05).According to the modified Macnab criteria, such were the treatment results:24 were excellent cases,8 were good cases and 3 were acceptable cases, with excellent and good cases accounting for 91%.Conclusions PTED seemed to be an effective and safe treatment method for lumbar disc herniation in afloat naval personnel, and it had the advantages of less trauma, mild postsurgical pain and fast recovery.
