Abstract: Objective:To elucidate the relationship between habitual eye use, parental myopia and myopia progression among first-year junior middle school students in Beijing. Methods:A cohort of first-year junior middle school students in Beijing were recruited as study subjects by using a multi-stage random cluster sampling approach. A questionnaire survey plus ophthalmological examinations were used to collect the study data. Multivariate linear regression model was used to investigate the impacts of habitual eye use and parental myopia on myopia progression one year later. Results:There was a positive correlation between habitual eye use scale score and visual acuity[ β=0.010, 95% CI: (0.002~0.018) , P=0.016], and a negative correlation between parental myopia and visual acuity[ β=-0.046, 95% CI: (-0.073~-0.019) , P=0.001]. Stratified by parental myopia, healthy habits of eye use were positively correlated with visual acuity in children of non-myopic parent (s) ( P=0.040) . Conclusion:Healthy habits of eye use can help improve myopia progression among first-year junior middle school students, especially for those of non-myopic parent (s) .
