Abstract: Objective:To investigate the correlation between mycoplasma infection and routine semen parameters, sperm DNA integrity in male infertile patients. Methods:Included in this study were 90 male infertile patients who were treated in the infertility clinic of our hospital between January and December 2019 (infertility group) and a contemporary cohort of 60 normal fertile males (normal control group) . Semen samples of the both groups were collected for detection of Ureaplasma urealyticum (UU) , and measurements of semen pH, density, vitality and motility. Male infertile patients received testing of sperm DNA fragmentation. The correlation between UU infection and routine semen parameters, sperm DNA integrity was analyzed. Results:The positive rate of UU infection in the male infertile group (40.0%, 36/90) was significantly higher than that in the normal control group (5.0%, 3/60) ( χ2=21.138, P=0.000) . There was no significant difference in semen pH or sperm density between the two groups (both P>0.05) . Sperm vitality and sperm motility in the male infertile group were lower than those in the normal control group (both P<0.05) . Among male infertile patients, there was no significant difference in semen pH or sperm density between the UU-positive and UU-negative semen samples (both P>0.05) . However, compared with UU- negative semen samples, the UU-positive semen samples showed lower sperm vitality and sperm motility, and higher rate of sperm DNA fragmentation rate (all P<0.05) . In male infertile patients, UU infection was negatively correlated with sperm vitality and sperm motility, but positively correlated with sperm DNA fragmentation rate ( rs=?0.341, ?0.327 and 0.398, all P<0.05) . Conclusion:UU infection in male infertile patients is related to sperm vitality, sperm motility and sperm DNA integrity. UU infection may affect male sperm quality and sperm DNA integrity.
