Abstract： Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of topical fusidic acid cream combined with tazarotene cream for the treatment of moderate acne vulgaris.Methods Seventy-nine patients with moderate acne vulgaris were randomly divided into a treatment group (39 cases) and a control group (40 cases) according to a random number table.Patients in the treatment group topically applied fusidic acid cream twice daily and tazarotene cream to lesion sites once per night for 8 weeks,while patients in the control group were treated with metronidazole gel twice daily and tazarotene cream at lesion sites once per night for 8 weeks.After treatment,clinical efficacy was evaluated according to symptom score reduction index (SSRI),cure rate and response rate.Adverse reactions were recorded during the study.Results Finally,36 patients in the treatment group and 33 patients in the control group completed the trial.After treatment,SSRI and cure rate were both significantly higher in the treatment group than in the control group (0.87 ± 0.12 vs.0.61 ± 0.09; 52.78％ (19/36) vs.36.37％ (12/33),both P ＜ 0.01).The response rate in the treatment group was also increased compared with the control group,but there was no significant difference between the two groups (36.11％ (13/36) vs.30.30％ (10/33),P ＞ 0.05).No systemic adverse reactions were observed.Conclusion Topical fusidic acid combined with tazarotene shows definite efficacy for moderate acne vulgaris with mild adverse effects.
