Abstract: As a common depigmentary skin disease, vitiligo is easy to diagnose but difficult to cure.Prostaglandins (PGs) are lipid paracrine factors produced by ketatinocytes in response to ultraviolet irradiation.PGs regulate many physiological processes in the skin, including immune function, cell growth, differentiation and apoptosis. Both prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and PGF2α can stimulate dendrite formation and melanin synthesis in melanocytes.PGE2 can also promote melanocyte proliferation. Many animal and clinical trials have proved the efficacy and safety of topical PGE2 and PGF2α in the treatment of vitiligo, hence, they may serve as promising treatment options for vitiligo.
