Abstract: Keloid is a kind of abnormal tissue repair following skin injury in genetically susceptible individuals. At present, the pathogenesis of keloid remains an enigma, and may be associated with the interaction between multiple gene pathways. In genetically susceptible individuals, wound healing environment factors including wound tension, inflammation and hormone levels may trigger abnormal gene expressions in some subgroup cells, subsequently induce changes in immune response as well as interaction between different cytokines and components, cause the abnormality in cell cycle regulation and apoptosis, expression of cytokines and their receptors, and metabolism of extracellular matrix, and finally lead to the formation of keloid.
