Abstract: Skin cancer is one of the most common cancers. Ultraviolet irradiation is the predominant environmental factor causing skin cancer. Phosphatase and tensin homolog deleted on chromosome 10 (PTEN) is a tumor suppressor gene located on chromosome 10 q23,3, which has been frequently studied in recent years. There is evidence that PTEN acts as a tumor suppressor in many skin cancers, such as basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma. Ultraviolet irradiation can result in the inactivation of PTEN and in turn promote the development of cancer.
