Abstract: As a member of animal pattern recognition receptor family (PRR), Toll like receptors (TLRs) possess a regulatory effect on both innate and adaptive immunity. Anti-Candida albicans immunity is mainly associated with TLR2 and TLR4. Pathogens can be recognized by TLR2 or TLR4 alone, the dimer of TLR2 or TLR4 with other TLRs, or by the combination of either of them with other pattern recognition receptors, such as Dectin-1 or mannose receptor. It has been evidenced that TLRs on the surface of immune cells can recognize C.albicans, then, mainly through the myeloid differentiation factor 88 (MyD88) -dependant signaling pathway, activate leucocyte chemotaxis, enhance the phagocytosis and candidacidal activity of phagocytes, and trigger the release of related cytokines, which in turn contributes to the defense against C.albicans.
