Endoscopic trans-nose surgery of tumors invading cavernous sinus

Abstract: Objective To discuss the value and significance of the technique of using endoscopic tram- nose surgery to resect tumors invading cavernous sinus.Methods From January 2011 to August 2011,35 patients with tumors invading cavernous sinus who received endoscopic trans - nose surgery were analyzed.Results No patients was dead.Total,subtotal and partial resection were performed on 20,10 and 5 patients respectively.After a follow - up of all patients for 3 - 9 months,no severe complications occurred.Conclusions Using endoscopic trans - nose surgery to resect tumors invading cavernous sinus has some special advantages than traditional methods.The improved exposure of the operation area could reduce the risk of injury to the internal carotid artery and the surrounding cranial nerves,result in more complete tumor removal and allow rapid recovery of the patients with minimal postoperative discomfort.
