Abstract: Objective Orthotopic liver transplantation was successfully performed on a patient with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) associated with liver cirrhosis and portal hypertension. Methods On the basis of the animal experiment, the liver was perfused and preserved with 4℃ UW solution after harvesting quickly. The operation was performed under the extracoporeal venovenous bypass. Results The operation lasted 12 h and the duration of anhepatic phase was 100 min. During the operation there was no significant haemodynamic changes. Postoperative renal function was normal and the patient had good recovery. Conclusion It is essential to perform venovenous bypass during liver transplantation in HCC patients with cirrhosis and portal hypertension.
