Abstract: Objective To explore the microsurgical resection of pituitary adenoma and the technique to preserve the pituitary stalk via modified frontalbase approach.Methods Fifty cases were treated via modified frontalbase approach.Results Total removal of the tumor was got in 45 cases (90%) and subtotal resection was performed in 5 cases (10%).The pituitary stalks were reserved in 48 cases (96%).We couldn't find the pituitary stalks in 2 cases.The pituitary stalks can be protected well via modified frontalbase approach and can reduce the postoperative incidence of adverse reactions.Conclusion The protection of pituitary stalk is effective via modified frontal base approach with a limited effect on eyesight.
