Abstract: Objective To study the quality of life and outcome of catheter ablation in women with atrial fibrillation (AF).Methods A cohort of 618 cases with atrial fibrillation undergoing catheter ablation at the Anzhen Hospital from June 2009 to June 2010 were studied. There were 432 male and 186 female.Outcome was analyzed for control of AF and improvement in quality of life during the follow-up period(≥6 months). Results There was no significant difference in the percentage of patients with free of atrial fibrillation [65.6% (122/186) vs 68.3%(295/432),P > 0.05] and episodes of atrial fibrillation rarely [(21.5%(40/186) vs 21.1%(91/432),P >0.05] between woman and man during the follow-up period(≥6 months). There was also no significant difference in the percentage of patients with significant improvement in quality of life [71.5% (133/186) vs 71.3% (308/432),P >0.05] and improvement in quality of life [15.1% (28/186) vs 15.7% (68/432),P > 0.05] between woman and man during the follow-up period(≥6 months). Conclusion Catheter ablation in women is effective for control of AF and improvement of quality of life.
