Abstract: Objective To investigate the expression of fibroblast activation protein(FAP) in endometrial carcinoma and the relationship between FAP expression and microvessel density(MVD). Methods Endometrial carcinoma tissue from 82 patients and endometrial polyp tissue from 20 patients confirmed by pathological examination were available for study. The expression of FAP and CD34 in endometrial carcinoma tissue and endometrial polyp tissue were detected by immunohistochemistry. Results The positive rate of FAP expression in stromal fibroblasts was 89.02% (73 cases)in patients with endometrial carcinoma tissue, while carcinoma cells and endometrial polyp tissues were negative for FAP. In endometrial carcinoma, FAP expression and MVD were associated with tumor differentiation, invasion and lymph node metastasis(P <0.01), respectively. MVD was significantly correlated with FAP intensity in endometrial carcinoma. Conclusions In endometrial carcinoma tissue, FAP expression correlates with the invasion and metastasis. FAP may promote tumor growth, invasion and metastasis by facilitating tumor angiogenesis.
