Abstract: Objective To explore the mechanism and dose-effect of social and psychological factors that might influence the subjective well-being(SWB) of divers. Methods Two hundred and ninety-six divers were assessed with the Index of well-being,the self-esteem scale (SES),the life event scale (LES) and the coping style questionnaire (CSQ),and the symptom checklist-90 (SCL-90).Results The scores of subjective well-being (SWB) were positively correlated with the scores of mature coping style (r =0.226) and SES (r =0.273),and correlated negatively with the scores of SCL-90 (r =-0.278) and LES (r =-0.121).Results of path analysis showed that x2/df was 1.559,and that NFI and CFI were all greater than 0.9 and RMSEA 0.077.The variables that had direct effects on SWB could be placed in the following order of importance:SES (r=0.21),mature coping style(r =0.18),SCL-90(r =-0.14),LES(r =0.07)and premature coping style ( r =0.03 ).Conclusions Mental health status, coping style and self-esteem were important predictors of subjective well-being of divers.
