Abstract: Objective:To evaluate clinically the treatment with artificialliver support system (ALSS) in chronic fulminant viral hepatitis. Methods:Fiftyfive cases (162 episodes) were treated with ALSS,56 cases with convontional treatment as controls.Immunological and biochemical tests were performed before and after treatment with ALSS.Results:It showed that liver function parameters were markedly improved after treatment with ALSS,e.g.,serum globulin returned to normal, serum endotoxin decreased. There were no changes in levels of tumor necrosis factor(TNF),interleukin2(IL2) as well as interleukin2 receptor(IL2R),and blood electrolyte etc.after ALSS treatment.Complications of ALSS included rash, hypotention etc.,but most patients could tolerated well.Clinical curative rate in ALSS group was much higher than in the controls (61.8% vs.17.9%,P<0.01).Conclusions:Our results showed that ALSS treatment in chronic fulminant viral hepatitis could alleviate the organ damage and improve the clinical curetive rate.
