Abstract: Objective To estimate the heritability of fasting plasma glucose(FPG) and 2 hour plasma glucose(2hPG) after oral glucose tolerance test(OGTT) in adult twins. Methods Adult healthy twin pairs recruited from Qingdao twin registry underwent OGTT. Zygosity of twins was established using polymorphic DNA-based microsatellite markers. Heritability was estimated by formulating univariate model using Mx soft. Results 134 twin pairs were studied in this research. Their FPG and 2hPG were (51±09) and (66±25) mmol/L. After adjustment for sex, age and BMI,the ACE and AE model were the best for FPG and 2hPG. Heritability of FPG and 2hPG were 39% and 56%. Conclusions This study indicates that genetic and individual environmental factors were important for FPG and 2hPG. The genetic variations show a larger effect on 2hPG than on FPG.
