Abstract: Objective To investigate the effects of visceral obesity and diabetes on pituitary function of postmenopausal women. Methods Subjects were divided into four groups:pre-menopausal control (NC1 ),postmenopausal control (NC2 ),T2DM without obesity (DM ) and T2DM with visceral obesity (DM+Ob).General clinical characteristics, anterior pituitary hormones and steroid hormone of the four groups were compared. Results (1) Serum LH/FSH concerntrations were lower in DM+Ob group than in NC2 group (P<0.01) ,and Serum FSH concerntration were lower in DM+Ob group than in DM group (P<0.05). (2) Serum levels of ACTH,PRL,GH,TSH were lower in DM group and DM+Ob group, but the differences didn′t reach to the significance. (3) There were no significant differences in steroid hormones among the three postmenopausal groups, although the DHEA,E2 and P were significantly decreased as compared with group NC1. Conclusions In the postmenopause women with T2DM, the secretion functions of pituitary gonadotroph cells are impaired ,especially in the subgroup suffering from visceral obesity.
