The change of islet β-cell function and serum IL-6,TNF-α levels in LADA patients

Abstract: Objective To observe the changes in islet cell function and serum IL-6, TNF-α levels of latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA) and the effect of the cytokines on the pathogenesis of LADA. Methods 32 LADA patients,30 type 2 diabetic patients and 30 healthy subjects underwent the detections of serum insulin, C-peptide, IL-6,and TNF-α. ResultsSerum level of fasting and postprandial insulin and C-peptide were lower in LADA than in type 2 diabetes (P<0.05 or P<0.01). The serum IL-6 and TNF-α levels were gradually higher one by one in three groups of healthy subjects,T2DM and LADA. Conclusions The β-cell function damage is more serious in LADA than in type 2 diabetes. IL-6, TNF-α may be involved in the LADA autoimmune process and in the immune inflammatory process of type 2 diabetes.
