Abstract: Objective To evaluate the association of ApoE gene polymorphism with type 2 diabetic nephropathy(T2DN)in Chinese Han population. Methods Odds ratios (ORs) of ApoE allele/genotype distribution in T2DN, type 2 diabetic non-nephropathy (T2DNN) and healthy controls (NC) were analyzed. Relative literatures were fully searched and screened through the computed database. The pooled OR and its 95% CI were calculated with these studies by the method of meta-analysis.The evaluation of the reliability and stability of the meta-analysis results were performed. Results The pooled ORs and 95% CIs of allele E2, genotype E2/E2 and genotype E2/E3 of ApoE gene of T2DN vs. T2DNN and T2DN vs. NC were 2.08 [1.55, 2.77], 2.75 [1.09, 7.01], 2.10 [1.48, 2.96], 2.62 [2.01, 3.41], 3.63 [1.61, 8.16] and 2.64 [1.67, 4.16], respectively (P<0.05) in Chinese Han population. The pooled ORs and 95% CIs of allele E3 and genotype E3/E3 of ApoE gene in T2DN vs. T2DNN and T2DN vs. NC were 0.67 [0.54, 0.82], 0.62 [0.48, 0.79], 0.53 [0.41, 0.70] and 0.49 [0.39, 0.62], respectively (P<0.05) in Chinese Han population. Conclusions ApoE gene polymorphism is associated with T2DN in Chinese Han population. E2 allele is a risk factor for T2DN, and E3 allele may be protective for T2DN
