Abstract: Objective To investigate the prevalence of diabetes mellitus and impaired glucose regulation among inpatients with acute cerebrovascular disease(ACD).Methods A total of 3816 inpatients with acute cerebrovascular disease in the Fifth Hospital of Shenyang City from January 2000 to September 2006 were enrolled, and 75-gram glucose tolerance test(OGTT)were conduced in inpatients who were not diagnosed as diabetes mellitus. Results The prevalence of diabetes mellitus in inpatients with acute cerebrovascular disease was 37.2%,and that of impaired glucose regulation was 17.5%,the prevalence of all metabolic abnormality of glucose was 54.6%.If only fasting plasma glucose(FPG)was tested,25.8% of patients with impaired glucose regulation(IGR)and 6.1% of patients with diabetes mellitus(DM)would be missed. Conclusions The metabolic abnormalities of glucose are highly prevalent in inpatients with ACD,we should detect serum glucose by an adequate method
