Stem cell therapy in diabetes mellitus:Dream or reality

Abstract： An important property of stem cells is their ability to self-renew and to differentiate into multi-lineage cells. Stem cells have been shown to differentiate into many cell types, such as insulin-secreting cells and vascular endothelial cells, and therefore offer the promise of a new regenerative medicine in the treatment of diabetes and its complications. The issues and progress involved in the stem cell therapy of diabetes are briefly commented in this article.
