Abstract： Objective To investigate the incidence of obesity among town staffs of Jiangsu Province,and the influence of obese degree on lipids metabolism and other related factors.Methods 3808 participants were divided into control group,overweight group and obesity group by body mass index(BMI).Serum levels of fasting plasma glucose(FPG),total cholesterol(TC),triglyceride(TG)and fasting insulin(FIns)were determined.Results(1)The incidence of obesity were 11.5%,and increased with increasing of age.(2)Waist circumference(WC),SBP,DBP,TC,TG,FPG,FIns and HOMA-IR were significantly higher in overweight and obesity groups than in control group,and higher in obesity group than in overweight group.BMI was associated with WC,SBP,DBP,TC,TG,FPG,FIns and HOMA-IR.(3)The coefficient correlations of WC with FIns and HOMA-IR were larger than those of BMI with FIns and HOMA-IR.Conclusions Obesity is associated with hypertension,dyslipidemia and insulin resistance.The more degree the obesity is,the worse the parameters of related metabolic disorders are.The abdominal fat distribution shows more relation with hyperinsulinemia and insulin resistance than does total fat mass.
