Abstract: Objective To investigate the association of tyrosine kinase (TEK) gene with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) by single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) detection and genotyping. Methods Sequences of coding regions (including sequence near splicing site) of TEK gene was detected by PCR-sequencing in T2DM and normal controls, who were Chinese Han residents in east and south-east China. Results A total of 23 SNPs were identified for TEK gene, inclnding 19 high frequency SNPs and 4 low frequency SNPs. Two SNPs locating in the exon 14 and exon 23 of TEK had significant difference in genotype distribution between T2DM and controls (both P<0.05). Conclusions The TEK gene may associate with T2DM in Eastern and South-eastern Chinese Han population.
