Abstract: Objective To investigate the difference in foot plantar pressure between Chinese normal population and diabetics and to probe the influencing factors on the difference. Methods Enrolled were 132 normal subjects and 418 diabetics. Each subject was evaluated with the EMED-AT system. Each trail included at least five acceptable separate barefoot for each foot. The mean foot peak pressure (PP) was calculated. Results The PP in normal subjects was 386 kPa at left foot, 384 kPa at right foot. The distribution of plantar pressure(the maximum 3 masks) in normal subjects showed the sort of the second metatarsals>the first toe> the third metatarsals on left foot and that of the second metatarsals >the third metatarsals> the first toe on right foot.Plantar callus increased PP level in normal subjects. The PP in diabetics was 380 kPa on left foot, 368 kPa on right foot, with no significant difference from the normal subjects. There was no significant relationship of sex, age, BMI with PP and the pressure distribution in normal subjects and diabetics. Conclusion The PP in diabetics is almost the same as that in the normal subjects, but their distribution is different. The PP in those diabetics with peripheral neuropathy is increased as compared with the normal subjects.
