Abstract: Objective To develop a mathematical model from modifying Bergman′s minimal model to evaluate the insulin sensitivity and secretion function by 75 g OGTT data. Methods After carefully studying the Bergman′s minimal model, we established the linear minimal model (LMM) for OGTT data calculation on the hypothesis that insulin concentration in the intercellular fluid was almost proportional to that in blood. By the data of Bergman′s minimal model method and the data of hyperglycemia clamp test and euglycemic clamp test from DeFronzo, the rationality of modified minimal model (MMM) and linear minimal model (LMM) was studied. Results Model MMM was better than Bergman′s minimal model. Linear minimal model (LMM) derived from model MMM was showed to be better than the physiological model developed by J.A.J. Stolwijk and the model of Natalucci in evaluating insulin sensitivity. Conclusion Model LMM can be used better in evaluating the insulin sensitivity and secretion function in clinical application.
