Abstract: Objective To explore the expression of resistin protein in abdominal subcutaneous adipose tissue and placental tissue in pregnant women and the relationship between pregnant insulin resistance and gestational diabetes mellitus. Methods The expression of resistin protein in abdominal subcutaneous adipose tissue and placenta of pregnant and nonpregnant women was measured using western blot method. Results Resistin protein expression in placental tissue [(67 905±8441) A] was much higher than that in abdominal subcutaneous fat tissue in pregnant women [(40 718±3818)A](P<0.01)and nonpregnant women [(38 288±2084)A] (P<0.01) respectively, and there was no significant difference in abdominal subcutaneous fat tissue between pregnant and nonpregnant women. Conclusion Resistin is higher secreted from human placental tissue than fat, which is one of the factors leading to pregnant insulin resistance and gestational diabetes mellitus.
