Abstract: Objective To compare the differences of insulin resistance and clinical relevant factors between Chinese and Japanese groups of newly diagnosed type 2 diabetic patients. Methods We adopted the systematic documents designed by Kyoto National Hospital Diabetes Center of Japan to manage the standard registration of type 2 diabetic patients. Using HOMA-IR to evaluate insulin resistance in each group and to compare its differences among four groups: diabetes, diabetes plus hypertension, diabetes plus dyslipidemia and diabetes plus hypertension and dyslipidemia and also compare those between Chinese and Japanese group. Results Along with adding hypertension and dyslipidemia to diabetes in both groups, fasting insulin and HOMA-IR increased. Fasting insulin and HOMA-IR in Chinese group was apparently different from Japanese group (P<0.01). BMI in Chinese group was distinctly higher than Japanese group (P<0.01).The percentage of cases suffering hypertension and dyslipidemia was more in Chinese than in Japanese group(P<0.01). Using generalized linear model the result showed that IR in Chinese was associated with hypertension and dyslipidemia(OR=1.384,1.253, P=0.001、0.005) and IR in Japanese was associated with BMI and hypertension (OR=1.062, 1,340 P<0.0001, P=0.018). Conclusion Among newly diagnosed type 2 diabetic patients insulin resistance was related with BMI, hypertension and dyslipidemia. The IR is higher significantly in Chinese than in Japanese group. The result might be caused by higher BMI and higher incidence of hypertension and dyslipidemia in Chinese than in Japanese group.
