Abstract: Objective To study the changes of blood lipid levels in non-diabetic first-degree siblings of type 2 diabetes families.Methods 320 type 2 diabetes families were recruited from Shanghai.The observation group comprised 347 first-degree siblings with normal glucose tolerance (NGT).The control group comprised 326 NGT spouses of probands and siblings.The study groups were divided into subgroups according to age and BMI.Blood lipid levels were compared between the observe and control groups.Results The TC,TG,LDL levels in non-diabetic first-degree siblings of type 2 diabetes families were higher and the HDL level in this population was lower than control,especially in those aged over 40yr.Conclusion Lipid abnormalities may be present in NGT relatives of type 2 diabetes families.Blood lipid monitoring is important for the early prevention and treatment of DM.
