Abstract: Objective To investigate the effect of ES on inhibiting CNV and the expression of Flk-1. Method ES and normal saline were separately injected into subconjunctival tissues immediately after alkali-burning,and the manipulation was repeated every other day.The expression of Flk-1 was examined by immunohistochemical method.The length and growth velocity of the newly formed comeal vessels were also measured. Results 1.Flk-1 was not expressed in the cornea.When the cornea was bumed by alkali,the expression was dramatically increased.There was a significant difference between group B and group A (P <0.01).2.The expression of Flk-1 was significantly inhibited by ES.There was a significant difference between the group C and group B (P <0.01).3.The CNV in the group C formed later and grew more slowly than that of group B (P <0.01).Conclusions 1.After alkali-burning,the expression of Flk-1 is greatly enhanced.The increase of Flk-1 is the very important causation of the CNV.2.ES can significantly inhibit the expression of Flk-1,ES can greatly decrease the bioactivity of VEGF by inhibiting the expression of Flk-1.So it can significantly inhibit the forming of CNV.
