A clinical study of phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation in super high myopia eyes with cataract

Abstract： Objective To observe the clinical effect of phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation in treating cataract patients with super high myopia. Methods Fifty patients (83 eyes) were enrolled to learn their VA,daily life and general situation before surgery and 3 months later with application of 25-item National Eye Institute Visual Function Questionnaire (NEI-VFQ25). Results Items including distant vision,scotopic vision,sociability,psychosis,self-confidence and color discrimination obviously improved after cataract surgery,but the degree of satisfaction in near vision dramatically declined.The overall satisfaction increased from 29.37±4.58 before surgery to 64.54±3.57 in 3 months after surgery (t =-39.63,P =0.00). Conclusions The cataract patients with super high myopia feel highly satisfied with phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation surgery.The surgery can greatly increase the quality of life in cataract patients with super high myopia.The surgery deserves to be spread and applied in cataract patients with super high myopia.
