Abstract: Objective To evaluate the reliability and validity of the modified Short Parkinson's Evaluation Scale (SPES). Methods 60 patients with Parkinson's Disease (PD) were assessed with SPES, unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale(UPDRS) and Hoehn and Yahr(H&Y) Scale at the same time. The latter two scales were evaluated to the validity of SPES. 30 cases were examined twice by different PD's doctors to assess the inter-rater reliability of SPES. Results The reproducibility was same for all subseales between SPES and UPDRS,and both scales revealed similar correlation with H&Y scale of disease severity. More over, the mean time to complete measures differed significantly (P<0.001). Conclusion The SPES is a short, reliable, and valid scale that can adequately be measured in clinical research and follow-up.
