Abstract: After soil acidification, the pH of brown forest soil decreased, numerous Al and Mn ions were leached. The germin ation rate of Chinese pine (Pinus tabulaeformis Carr.) seeds increased a lit tle s owed in brown forest soil, which was treated with H2SO4. The chlorophyll con tent, water transpiration, photosynthetic rate, dry weight and relative growth r ate of Chinese pine seedlings all decreased growing in such soil. The reason is that Al and Mn ions are poisonous to Chinese pine, and prevent Chinese pine from absorbing Ca and Mg in soil. Tab 3, Ref 12
