Abstract: The effects of deep cultivation-root cutting on the senescence of root system were studied after anthesis and yield of wheat in dry land. The results showed that the deep cultivation-root cutting before winter was found best among different growth stage treatments, then finally was the treatment in wheat before jointing and control, and was the treatment before winter and before jointing. The deep cultivation-root cutting before winter would delay root senescence by reducing root vigor, the activities of superoxide dismatase(SOD) and catalase(CAT), and the soluble protein content, and also delay the increase of malondialdehyde(MDA) content in root system. Meanwhile, the deep cultivation-root cutting before winter would also increase the spike number, the spike number ratio, and the grain yield. It suggests that the technique of deep cultivation-root cutting before winter be widely used in the areas for dry land wheat. Fig 5, Tab 1, Ref 10
