Abstract: Objective To investigate the proportional changes of hospitalized patients with pancreatic diseases in the Guangdong Province. Methods Data of patients with pancreatic diseases were collected and analyzed from 13 hospitals in the Guangdong Province between 1994 ~ 2003 ( group A ) and 1984 ~ 1993(group B). Results 6172 patients with pancreatic diseases and totally 1468791 hospitalized cases were found from 1994 to 2003. 1772 patients with pancreatic diseases and totally 713986 patients were found from 1984 to1993. Proportion of patients with pancreatic diseases to totally hospitalized cases were 4.20‰ and 2.48‰ in group A and group B, respectively (P < 0. 001 ). Proportion of patients with pancreatitis to totally hospitalized cases in group A was 2.76‰ and in group B was 1.55‰, respectively ( P < 0.001 ). Proportion of patients with pancreatic carcinoma to totally hospitalized cases in group A was 1.01‰ and in group B was 0. 70‰,respectively (P < 0. 001 ). 192 and 29 patients with pancreatic pseudocyst were found in group A and group B.Proportion of patients with pancreatic pseudocyst to pancreatitis in group A (4. 72%, 192/4060) were significantly higher than in group B (2.61%, 29/1110) (P=0.002). Conclusions Proportion of patients with pancreatic diseases in hospitalized cases increase from 1984 ~ 1993 to 1994 ~2003 in the Guangdong Province.
