Abstract: Objective To survey the effects of modern simulating teaching based on clinical skills training center in fostering on clinical skills of undergraduate medical students. MethodsUsing both standardized patients and full-featured simulated man (SimMan) to improve the general clinical skills and emergency care as well as first aid for undergraduate students of Binzhou Medical University from 2008 to 2010. In our study, we evaluate the training results with the methods of comment on the scene and assessment. On the other hand, we also make a questionnaire survey in order to gather the information of simulation-based teaching from the teachers and all the trainee students. Results All the trainee students pass the final examination successfully. Results of the questionnaire survey are positive, including the obviously improvement of the students in general clinical skills, diagnosis and treatment. The communication skills and the sense of emergency care of them are also enhanced, but the cardiopulmonary resuscitation skills need more training. All the teachers and trainee students consider the simulation-based teaching as an important teaching method which can make up for the deficiency of real clinical patients for medical students training. Conclusions It is very important and it worth to extend using simulating teaching based on clinical skills training center to develop the clinical skills of medical students. Simulating teaching is not only effective for students to learn clinical skills but it also helps alleviate the relatively shortage of clinical teachers in our country.
