Abstract: To identified problems of medical education in China, CMB North China Center for Medical Education Development conducted a survey in 23 medical schools/colleges. Among 1 900 forms distributed, we got 1 761 responded, with 92.7% response rate. Most subjects surveyed believed that medical education in China needed to reform in all aspects by referring global standards, including teaching plans, curriculum, course contents, education strategies, teaching assessments, and education resources. For the success of reform, we should innovate our concepts, clarify disparities with international trends, identify directions, and take actions. Faculty development was a critical measure of the reform, while faculty with middle level titles and faculty providing lectures, and faculty from institutes of western regions should be the main targets. Developing and adopting policies and systems to encourage them to engage in the reform is also important.
